My Voice in Winter

The best way to look after your voice in the winter season.

  • Firstly check that you sleep with a window open. This allows the fresh air to circulate, much like breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth- as you know the nose hairs filter the air. So go and open a window.

  • Secondly if you have a chest infection sleep with extra pillows. This allows you to sleep and stops you coughing all night and therefore protects your vocal folds.

  • Thirdly steam if you have a head cold or sauna if you have a chest cold. wet heat on stuffy noses and dry heat wet chesty phlegm. this will allow you cough up that nasty stuff with ease.

  • Fourthly do some lip trills or horse lips to flick the phlegm off your vocal folds.
